Jakarta – PT AJINOMOTO INDONESIA has committed to help the government in reducing the level of carbon emission in Indonesia by reducing 38.500 tons of CO2 in 2020, and target to reduce 65.000 – 70.000 tons of CO2 by 2028. This statement was said by Yudho Koesbandryo, Factory Manager as well as Director PT AJINOMOTO INDONESIA. One of their attempt toward Global Sustainability is to reduce the impact on the environment and an endeavour to conserve the ecosystem.

“We classify those endeavours into carbon emission reduction activities (CO2) and subtraction in water consumption per unit in each production in Ajinomoto factories,” he said.

Yudho mentioned, PT AJINOMOTO INDONESIA has committed several efforts to lower carbon emission such as lessen the fuel consumption of all transportation in the workplace, cut electric power usage, and resolve steam leaks in production equipment.

“Through these strategies, PT AJINOMOTO INDONESIA is deeply devoted to always sustaining a good air quality for the neighborhood, and contribute to lessen the global environmental damage," he explained.

Since beginning, PT AJINOMOTO INDONESIA is not solely focused on contributing to health and wellbeing by providing various nourished menus, but they’re also committed to continuously value the society through ASV (The Ajinomoto Group Creating Shared Value) activities which focuses on global sustainability. Through ASV, PT AJINOMOTO INDONESIA will resolve social issues which will lead to the creation of economic value through its business activities, and will continue these initiatives in line with the growth of the business.

All contributions done by PT AJINOMOTO INDONESIA have given satisfying results. Mr. Yudho stated that PT AJINOMOTO INDONESIA’s involvement in reducing carbon emission in Mojokerto Factory is highly appreciated.

“As the production of MSG from the fermentation process rises, energy efficiency in production machinery, the realization of business structure reinforcement, and carbon emission reduction by 38,500 tons of CO2 within a year, Mojokerto Factory – PT AJINOMOTO INDONESIA received the ASV Award from Ajinomoto Headquarter (Ajinomoto Co., Inc.) in Tokyo, Japan,” he explained.

Implementation of Energy Conservation and Carbon Emission Mitigation Program in the Industrial Sector is a manifestation of the government's commitment to the G20 meeting – Pittsburgh, in 2009 on Reducing Greenhouse Gases.

The main factor of climate change is the increasing amount of greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4 and others) in the atmosphere. Previously in 2020, without any emission movement in Indonesia, carbon emission reached its peak at 2,950 million tons of CO2 equivalent. The rise of carbon emissions will cause an inflation in air temperature and global warming, which in a certain period of time, can lead to climate change.

The expert from Indonesia Minister of Environment and Forestry for Industry and Trade in Indonesia, Laksmi Dewanti, affirmed that the Minister of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) appreciate every industry or company who have devoted themselves and strove for the reduction of carbon emission, just as Ajinomoto does.

“The mitigation of carbon emission which has been done by Ajinomoto is essentially not only helpful for environmental management, but also beneficial to the economy (efficiency) for the industry or companies concerned,” said Laksmi.

She also added that in Nationally Contribution (NDCs) Indonesia government has been extremely dedicated to execute a low-carbon and climate-resilient development system with a target of reducing emissions by 29% by 2030 in comparison to baseline emissions (BaU) through its own efforts up to 41% with international support.

“The successful execution of NDC is not a sole responsibility of the government, but county councils as well as private sectors, NGOs, and all stakeholders should also partake. The Minister of Environment and Forestry continues to encourage and support the act of carbon emission reduction that is not only profitable to environmental sustainability, but also the continuation of the industry itself,” she added.

PT AJINOMOTO INDONESIA will strive to take actions toward environmental issues to further contribute to the Indonesian society.
