Jakarta - PT AJINOMOTO INDONESIA commits to support the Indonesian society by reducing the water usage up to 35%. This commitment is also a form of participation in government programs and programs from Ajinomoto Co., Inc, as well as to maintain water availability on a regional scale, to cope with the limited water resource due to increase in water consumption especially during pandemic.
According to Hariyono, Deputy Factory Manager of PT AJINOMOTO INDONESIA – at Mojokerto Factory, the company is committed to use water as economically and efficiently as possible in all process production.
He explained, before there was a Waste Water Management Improvement or WMI Project, PT AJINOMOTO INDONESIA - Mojokerto Factory utilized around 5,600,000 KL / year. "Now, until the end of FY 2020 the estimate is around 3,600,000 KL / year. This means that we achieved in reducing water by 35%," he explained.
According to him, this is quite encouraging, because although by reducing water use up to 35%, the ability to produce MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) and seasoning can still increase.
One of the ways on how the savings are made is, by increasing the quality of water (water treatment) in the production process. "We are working on reduce, reuse, recovery and recycle activities for water use in every existing activity," he explained.
“Water recovery optimizes the quality of water so it doesn't require a lot of wasted water. Besides reducing the amount of water consumption itself, we also make efforts to recycle water in the production process" he added.

According to Firdaus Ali, Special Staff of the PUPR Minister for Water Resources, during the Covid-19 pandemic the use of clean water has tripled, "It could be because people wash their hands several times a day and clean using water, so they don't realize it that the consumption is quite high," he explained.
In industry, water is used for materials to support the production process, the need of water for industry must be greater because of the increase in production activity, then need for water will also increase.
The Indonesian government appreciates all industry sectors who continue to be committed to reducing water consumption.
